Life is definitely a little more simple right now, and although we’re not presenting ourselves to the world every day, we do need to keep up some basic beauty maintenance ….just to feel good about ourselves.

DIY beauty treatments may be the only way to go right now but they don’t have to be messy or complicated.  It makes sense to simplify your regime so that you’re able to feel like the best version of you without all the fuss (and expense).

We thought we’d share with you our best no-fuss, lip scrub recipes made with simple, natural, raw ingredients that you’ll have on hand – so you can make sure your lips are hydrated, soft and smooth.

A lip scrub contains two components: an exfoliant and a nourishing emollient. The emollient provides a hydrating base for your exfoliator, making it easier to apply to your lips.

These are great to use a couple of times a week or whenever your lips are feeling dry or flakey.

Just a heads up –  They’re definitely good enough to eat…. But don’t do that!

COCONUT + HONEY

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon organic honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon lukewarm water

Method:

  • Start by mixing the coconut oil and honey.
  • Add the brown sugar and the lukewarm water to this mixture.
  • Rub the mixture on your lips in a circular motion for two to three minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Why This Works

Coconut oil is filled with antioxidants and fatty acids that nourish the skin, while the brown sugar acts as a natural exfoliator that helps remove dead, dry skin. Honey is rich in natural healing properties

MINT

Simply replace the honey with 8-10 drops of peppermint (or spearmint essential oil)

Why This Works

Sugar works as a natural exfoliant while peppermint oil helps to stimulate circulation under the lips and create a “just bitten” effect that makes your lips appear fuller. This scrub is also very soothing and refreshing for the skin on your lips.

CHOCOLATE

  • Replace the honey with 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

Why this works:

Cocoa not only satisfies your chocolate cravings but also helps moisturize your lips deeply.

COFFEE

  • 1 tablespoon coffee grounds
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Method

  1. Mix the coffee grounds, coconut oil and honey in a mixing bowl and stir well.
  2. Dab this scrub onto your lips and massage in a circular motion for about one minute.
  3. Leave it on as a mask for another minute.
  4. Wash away with warm water for instantly hydrated lips.

Why This Works

Coffee isn’t just a morning essential.  This combo of coffee grounds and honey combo is an effective way to exfoliate and moisturize your lips.
