We women love all things coconut and know that coconut oil is good for our skin and hair but men…not so much!

As men are less informed about skin care and if they do use products, they like to keep it super simple, coconut oil is the perfect skin care product for blokes.

Coconut oil  hydrates and nourishes mens skin too of course.  It’s ideal for nourishing and protecting lips, hair, feet and has anti-ageing and anti-oxidant properties (meaning it will also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Simply put, even mens skin needs a little oil to keep it looking it’s best …just like oiling timber.  It can be used across the whole body, it’s inexpensive and a little goes a long way.

Face
You only need a TINY amount to achieve a great result. Using a mirror dab some coconut oil onto your index finger (hopefully this encourages you not to use too much!) apply to your face in gentle strokes. Remember: always wash your face first using a gentle face wash. Coconut oil for male skin care is particularly effective for the under-eye area, dry patches and the neck area after you’ve shaved. Spend a couple of minutes gently massaging it in before you apply your moisturiser. It’s great on dry hands too.

Body
It’s great to use on the whole body once week or more if your skin is dry or during the winter. Again you don’t need very much. Use a small amount and apply to dry areas, especially knees and elbows and anywhere else that takes your fancy! Your skin will glow with health and you’ll smell great too!

What type of coconut oil to buy?
Always use an unrefined/raw, virgin organic brand. It will last for ages so get the best quality you can.

We are all more aware these days about some of the harsh and potentially harmful ingredients contained in many of the grooming products we use everyday. From shampoo to toothpaste what you select put in your hair, under your armpits and spread over your face and body can sometimes be more like chemical warfare than pampering. However, because coconut oil for male skincare is completely natural you can relax, safe in the knowledge that there are no nasty side-effects. If it’s ok to eat then it’s fine to treat (your face and body!).

It may treat fungal infections
Virgin coconut oil was used in a study against one of the more common fungal infections, Candida. The study team looked at the susceptibility of coconut oil and fluconazole (a common antifungal medication) against 52 isolates of Candida. C. albicans had the greatest susceptibility to coconut oil (100%) and C. krusei had the highest resistance. The authors concluded that “coconut should be used in the treatment of fungal infections in view of emerging drug-resistant Candida species.”

It can protect the skin against sunburn
Coconut oil has a sun protective factor (SPF) of 8, according to a study published in Pharmacognosy Research. Although this is lower than the minimum recommended SPF (15-30), choosing a sunscreen that contains coconut oil can be a wise choice, since it also helps hydrate the skin and keep it soft. Avoid sunscreen products that contain PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid), benzophenones, octyl-methoxycinnamate, homosalate, 4-methyl-benzylidene camphor, and retinyl palmitate.
